Veteran Grave Decoration & Memorial Day Commemoration

 Marne Post #13 Members,

As we enter into Memorial Day weekend 2024 our thoughts, naturally, turn to the reason for the holiday ....

Saturday, May 25th beginning at 9:00am we will be decorating the graves of veterans at Plainfield Cemetery (use Rt 30 entrance) followed by decorating veteran graves at
St Mary's Cemetery (Naperville-Plainfield Rd).

Please meet at the flagpole in Plainfield Cemetery no later than 9:00am on 25MAY for our opening prayer. Please DO NOT start decorating graves before our group meets for directions and opening prayer.

Monday, May 27th we will be celebrating the heroism of those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country with a parade, commemoration ceremony and BBQ. [Note: rifle detail meet at Post NLT 0930 for weapon distribution.]
  • Parade step-off 10:45am at Ira Jones MS. All Veterans/Military (HS students joining the military) and Marne Post #13 members are invited to march in the parade.
  • If marching, please be at Ira Jones MS by 10:15am for parade line up and organizational instructions. (There is parking available at Ira Jones MS).
  • Ceremony at Settler's Park, near the memorials, to begin approx 1100. Many Marne Post #13 members are participants and have been instructed as to their duties. The ceremony should last 30-45 minutes.
  • A BBQ at Marne Post #13 will follow the ceremony (appox 1200) hosted by Knights of Columbus and our Post. All Veterans/Military & their families are invited.
Please call the Post (815) 436-9231 or Americanism Chair Greg Roach (630) 222-1334 with any questions.
